I'm Schaf! I've been on the internet since I was a kid in the 90's. My non-fandom hobbies and interests include art, folklore and mythology (especially when it involves creatures), animals and biology, the chemical properties of gemstones and metals, and making spreadsheets for fun.
I like games. Particularly, indie games and older PC games; modern AAA games usually leave me cold. Some come-and-go fixations of mine include:
Zoo Tycoon (2001)
P.F. Magic's Petz series
Impossible Creatures
Spore
The Sims
Undertale and Deltarune
Inscryption
Monster Sanctuary
Cassette Beasts
Flight Rising
Some of the non-game fiction I either like or just find interesting to pick apart include:
Princess Tutu
Fullmetal Alchemist 2003
Yugioh 1998 (aka "season zero")
Deca-Dence
Steven Universe
Homestuck
I like in-depth Doylist discussion of a work's construction, its merits and flaws; but I also enjoy the inherent "game" of playing in Watsonian space and reverse-engineering things that the creators likely didn't even think about. It's fun! But it feels like a form of fandom discussion that's looked down upon now... perhaps as backlash against thermian arguments.
The pendulum swing of "uncritical adoration" to "declared irredeemable media" on the internet is fucking exhausting to me. I don't like having to preface every critique to make sure people know I don't think they're going to hell for enjoying it; I don't like having to preface every piece of praise with a performative declaration that I know it's deeply flawed. I want to have conversations that don't take everyone involved in bad faith.
Feel free to talk to me about any of my interests!
