This one using the acting career stage markers to allow for swordfights in front of the throne is inspired. Here's the creator's description:
I have been having so much fun playing in this castle! Little details include the “sword fight” stage markers from Get Famous in the Throne Room to make a fun show, in-game photos of the castle and the ‘king and queen’ to hang on the walls, and I shrunk down the dollhouse to put in the topical map at the strategy table. I also have it completely off grid. No cc!
This one was made 5 years ago, so it doesn't have a lot of packs that could flesh it out included, but I like the dedication to making it more than just a palace. Here's the creator's description:
Okay, when I say real I mean a residence and a fortress. Later on military fortresses and the nobility’s residences became two separate things, but both continued to look like older castles, even though most of the things they were copying, such as the crenellations, were no longer functional.
A real castle would be both a noble lord’s home where he would raise his children, and a military stronghold. All the outward facing windows had to be small, the merlons along the walls had to be appropriately large to shield soldiers on the battlements. Etc etc.
Castles would also likely have a castle smith and a castle chaplain among other things, such as an ample larder, a brewery, a cook house, etc.
Also the plumbing.. was bad.. mostly just holes in a wood plank that dropped to the moat.
This is a realistic medieval castle. It is off the grid, and it is gross, but the Sims still have to do the laundry and make their own food and find some way to entertain themselves.
They would have ONLY had one book readily available ,(the Bible.. probably in Latin) it would have been pretty hard to get your hands on much else. So I gave the residents just one book, a couple copies, but only one 😂.
Paper was in short supply.
If you want to check this build out it is Small Medieval Castle. EA Access: Emmengard.
It is player tested, 30x40 lot. Off the grid with laundry.
Enjoy 😊

This one has a functional horse stable and servant's quarters, so I gotta shout it out.
While of course I love fantasy elements like a wizard's tower, the main thing I'm interested in when looking for these is gesturing towards the idea of a stronghold that's designed to not just sustain the royals or nobles who own it, but that supports the servants, soldiers, etc that would typically also reside there there. I prefer when they function with the off-the-grid lot trait; I prefer when they have at least a little room for producing/processing food, I prefer them having sleeping spaces for more than just the hoity-toity. If the builder owns Horse Ranch, I like to see horse stables and a place for making and storing "nectar" (wine). Things like that. Most Sims "castle builds" are really just castle-shaped mansions, I feel like? I don't demand 100% verisimilitude, that's impossible and I'm no expert on castles anyways, but...
