Does anyone else feel like Halloween is becoming... less of a thing, than it used to be?

I keep hearing about local Halloween events becoming smaller and smaller, and less and less Halloween-specific...

Sigh...

Yes ...

It's the Trunk or Treat. Activities for small children are being moved into large parking lots or indoor areas. This is because fewer and fewer neighborhoods are safe to walk in, or even possible to walk in.

This loss is sad. It's also dangerous. Halloween has been the biggest event of the year when people walk up to someone's house and interact face to face, maybe with neighbors, maybe with strangers. It gives people a chance to make new friends and learn about the area where they live. In an era of increasing loneliness, that is a serious loss.

It's part of a broad trend away from people ever interacting with people. One section of society is screaming about how loneliness is killing people, and other sections are obsessed with finding ways to cut people off from each other so that more of them are unemployed and lonely. 0_o
